Set the Pole Target to the name of your rig/armature.

In the new Bone entry field that appears under the Pole Target entry, enter index_pole_L.

On setting the Pole Target entry, the main finger bones will likely spin around at an odd angle. With the index3_L bone still selected, change the pole angle to a number (in degrees) that best causes the finger to line itself up straight. This can vary from rig to rig, although the most common numbers are 90 degrees and −90 degrees.
